Ever since Chen Xiang enjoyed a hearty KFC meal on V-day, I get amused every time I see stars randomly endorsing the brand. A little research later and I learn that KFC actually has a very sizeable franchise in China and operates under Yum! Brands, which also owns Pizza Hut.
I haven’t been to a KFC outlet in China but I have been to Pizza Hut and it was super fancy unlike anything that you’d normally see in the States. KFC is still marketed as a fast food chain over there but it’s probably fancier too. Below are some photos uploaded by the stars on their respective weibo accounts, I couldn’t find one of Luhan but he gets his own poster as the spokesperson for the brand.
On May 19, 2017, Qin Jun Jie got into character as Emperor Kangxi from Legend of Dragon Pearl and talked about how he can have the best food and a table complete with Manchu and Han people but no KFC. Thus, he will offer a reward to anyone who presents him with a bucket of KFC.
On May 18, 2017, Deng Lun says that a 10-piece bucket makes him so happy to the point that he wants to sing an Ode to Joy.
On Feb. 21, 2017, Dilraba Dilmurat says that she’s going to eat quietly by herself, so that no one can take her food away.
On Feb. 16, 2017, even Vin Zhang Bin Bin couldn’t resist eating KFC even though he was still sporting an ancient style hairdo from filming The King’s Woman.
On Feb 22, 2017, Ju Jing Yi asked for someone to lend her a pair of hands and help her eat together.
On Nov. 7, 2016, Zhang Ruo Yun writes on weibo, “Don’t know when each one of you sees a KFC meal, do you think of me~”
On Jan. 5, 2017, Lay Zhang Yixing went undercover and visited 3 KFCs before finally finding a miniature Lay toy. These are really all just adverts of different sorts, but it has me hungry for some KFC.
