Now that In the Name of People is out of the way, we probably won’t be seeing any huge swings for the time being and it looks like Fighter of the Destiny has emerged as the new leader, performing consistently with ratings around 1.0. While it is no masterpiece with Douban ratings as low as 4.5 out of 10 (that’s a failing score in any test!), I really like it anyway. Granted that I’m watching for Luhan but I find the show’s wholesome appeal enjoyable and easy to watch.
Surgeons occasionally surpasses Fighter of the Destiny to become number one and it is very close to breaking into 1.0. When taking into account that the two shows air at different times, both are already at the top of their own game with Surgeons beating other offerings to win primetime.
Being the newest of the bunch, Song of Phoenix is at a disadvantage but it had some help by getting a nice lead in from In the Name of People. Hunan TV even switched up the schedules so that you had to watch an episode of Song of Phoenix first before you could catch the finale of In the Name of People. The thing is, I watched the premiere out of my own accord and couldn’t be bothered to check out the second episode because it was just bad.
*The above are mostly primetime shows that air at 19:30 while those highlighted in blue air at 22:00. **Rankings are overall rankings across the shows airing on the same night, regardless of air time.
As for the rest of the 10pm dramas, Glory of the Tang Dynasty Season 2 continued to pull in lackluster numbers even on its final week, but it ranked decently online, placing at number four.
As for the showdown between Luhan and Lay, Operation Love has fallen behind with ratings of 0.385. Without going into the quality of either shows, it was hardly a fair fight to begin with because not only did Operation Love premiere a week later than Fighter of the Destiny but it also airs once a week compared to the latter’s four times a week.
The star rankings seem to echo drama rankings such that the top placers for the past 7 days are Luhan, Gulnezer Bextiyar and Jin Dong.
*The top ten rankings are taken from Vlinkage. **View count is based on the nine streaming sites (Youku, Tudou, iQiyi, QQ Tencent, LeTV, PPTV, Xunlei, Sohu, Mango) *** Star popularity is based on view count, weibo, douban, tieba, search results, etc

I am watching fighter of the destiny and I am also enjoying it, despite the female lead who is stiff and insipid. I tried Song of Phoenix but I find it quite boring, I'll probably drop it.

Why is Song of Phoenix bad? I haven't started & I'm curious. Btw, thanks for posts for ratings & rankings such as this. I really enjoy them. Helps me with my to-watch list too. ^_^

Out of the the shows on this list, I enjoy Surgeons the most. Most shows lose steam midway and only pick up again towards the end, but with Surgeons, it gets even more addicting in the middle, and looks like it'll maintain it the final 15 episodes or so.

ooh, i haven't started watching but I feel like surgeons would definitely be the better quality show.. I look forward to starting it one of these days. Need my Jin Dong fix and Hu Ge is an added bonus too.

sad to say this but I think if you watch the first few minutes then you'd already know why.. To answer your question, the stills are way better than the actual show.. I didn't like the visuals, nor the main leads, nor the plot. But I dropped it pretty early so maybe it gets better, I wouldn't know 🙂

Thanks very much for the ratings update.
I'm not surprised about Song of the Phoenix. I thought the plot sounded interesting but the trailer and its visuals was dreadful and put me off watching it immediately. The annoying thing is it's one of the few Chinese dramas being subbed on viki. Of all the costume dramas coming out of China I wonder why they picked that one?
I'm still surprised by how poorly Glory of Tang Dynasty rated especially as it it has boosted Ren Jialun's popularity so much.
Surgeons numbers have picked up. I guess it was losing audience to In the Name of the People.
Keep up the great work! 🙂
