Kiss, Love and Taste 亲爱的味道 is a 39-episode Chinese drama that revolves around an inspirational romance built on a passion for cooking. It tells the story of An Wen Yu, the successor of the An Family Cookery who loses his sense of taste due to an accident. Jin Jin Jin is an aspiring chef with big dreams. Compared to An Wen Yu who craves for perfection and exercises discipline, Jin Jin Jin is the easygoing type. Their meeting brings together a fiery cook off and a blossoming romance.

Lu Yi (Spy Hunter) plays An Wen Yu, the overly meticulous perfectionist head chef and arrogant teacher who’s actually quite childish despite his achievements. Amber Kuo (The Great Expectations) plays Jin Jin Jin, a quirky personality who cooks with her heart. She’s a sketch artist who draws better than she cooks and causes more troubles that she solves.

Aaron Yan (Memories of Love) playing a fuerdai (second generation rich) who is smitten with the heroine. The supporting cast includes Ai Xiaoqi (Medical Examiner Dr. Qin) and Li Sha Min Zi (Love in the Imperial Palace).

I definitely feel like I’ve heard this story before. A chef losing his sense of taste, check. Polar opposites falling in a love over their passion for food, check. It seems that cooking dramas tend to play with the same tropes and this one hits the main ones. With Aaron Yan rounding up what seems to be a love triangle, I’d probably get hit with a strong case of second lead syndrome too.
