C-drama Ratings and Celeb Rankings (April 2017)

Fighter of the Destiny
If you think that Because of Meeting You left competition in the dust when it aired last month, then think again because In the Name of People is literally making a killing. After breaking past 4.0 less than two weeks ago, it has surged past 5.0 and last I checked, it’s at 6.0! It makes you wonder just how high it can go especially as the finale approaches this week.

Rather than talking about the obvious winner again, it seems fitting to turn the attention to Fighter of the Destiny, which in spite airing late from ten to midnight has managed to beat out a number of primetime offerings to rank at number three.

Luhan leads the VLinkage top ten celebrities to pull in another win for the show while his leading lady Gulnezer Bextiyar trails closely at fifth place. Lu Yi is right in between at number three. I imagine the network execs should be busting out the champagne because all the shows mentioned above air on Hunan TV.

*Most of the shows above air at 19:30 while those highlighted in blue air at 22:00. **Rankings are the overall rankings of the television series airing on the same night, regardless of timeslot.

Heirs, Surgeons and Star April are the new primetime shows entering the scene and it looks like they have yet to find their groove. Jin Dong’s medical drama Surgeons was leading the pack initially but Nicky Wu’s Star April seems poised to over for good, inching past 0.7 as of its third episode.

Amidst all of this, Huang Da Ni stays strong in second. I honestly don’t know much about it other than the fact that it’s a rerun, so I’m guessing domestic audiences must love it.

Jing Tian Glory of Tang Dynasty 2

Legend of the Condor Heroes saw its finale last week and pulled in 0.551. It’s not a huge splash but a commendable one for such a young novice cast. Glory of Tang Dynastywhich is the only other costume drama left is not faring so well in comparison.

Granted that airing late doesn’t mean you can’t do well but the change from season one’s daily primetime to season two’s 10pm slot that airs three times a week definitely had an impact. At least it’s painting a better picture online, coming in just behind In the Name of People and Fighter of the Destiny which are the two of the hottest dramas now.

And you guys, Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms is still in the top ten, I’m so proud.

*The top ten rankings are taken from Vlinkage. **View count is based on the nine streaming sites (Youku, Tudou, iQiyi, QQ Tencent, LeTV, PPTV, Xunlei, Sohu, Mango) *** Star popularity is based on view count, weibo, douban, tieba, search results, etc

Last but not the least, you may have noticed that I added some words in fine print to reflect some of the changes made. Instead of collating rankings for each timeslot, I decided to share the rankings across the board instead, since it’s easier to manage and probably easier to read. At the end of the day, this post is somewhat of a work in progress so if you have any suggestions at all, I’d love to hear it.
