The Devotion of Suspect X 嫌疑人X的献身 is a Chinese suspense thriller adapted from a Japanese novel by Keigo Higashino. It must be really good considering that the novel was turned into a j-movie in 2008, a k-movie in 2012 and is possibly up for a Hollywood remake.
It tells the story of a highly intellectual battle between a physicist and a mathematician who have been friends since they were young. The physicist works as a consultant for the police and an investigation for a case places a woman into the list of suspects, which unravels an even bigger mystery that pits the two friends against each other.

The movie is directed by Alec Su and headlined by Wang Kai (Stay With Me), Zhang Lu Yi (Sparrow) and Ruby Lin (Singing All Along). One of the requirements for the film was to ensure that it bring something different from the previous versions and it seems to have succeeded eventually getting the buyoff of Kego Higashino who was also heavily involved in the process.
It is pretty much impossible to ship Alec Su and Ruby Lin as a couple (nor do I want to) since she is happily married while he has stepped away from the limelight to work behind the scenes but it’s such a throwback to see them together and it’s awesome that their friendship clearly withstood the test of time.
