On March 30, the Once Upon A Time 三生三世十里桃花 cast led by Crystal Liu, Yang Yang, Kevin Yan Yikuan, Li Chun, etc. appeared in black tie attire to promote the upcoming movie adaptation of Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms. Luo Jin who plays Zhe Yan couldn’t make it due to work commitments though he sent a short video wishing that the movie will sell well and hoping that fans will like it.
The movie is directed by Zhao Xiao Ding who also worked on blockbusters like Hero and Flying Daggers. He shared that he along with the two leads are virgos – perfectionists and detail oriented.
He praised how Crystal Liu did a lot of preparation before filming began, reading the novel multiple times and discussing the character and plot, hoping to capture the dualities of her role. He also shared that Yang Yang worked hard to practice his lines and watched his diet to be in perfect shape, his background in dance definitely played a part, adding a fluidity to the fight scenes.
The entire cast re-enacted a scene with everyone seemingly standing at the edge of Zhu Xian Tai, ready to jump in a hilarious sort of way. Crystal Liu and Yang Yang played up the sweetness of their couple pairing by running some lines ‘in character’ equipped with Yehua’s sword and Bai Qian’s fan.
The cuteness really hit the fan when Peng Zi Su who plays Ah Li joined his parents onstage. The family of three played a game of hugs and kisses giving fans a preview of the warm and fuzzies to come.
When asked about their thoughts on each other, Crystal Liu said that Yehua is like a child,
bogged down by responsibilities and quite dreary. Yang Yang said that Bai Qian is not only the most beautiful but she is also a woman who loves to drink the most.
Last but not the least, Yan Yikuan who plays Qing Cang said that he hurt Yang Yang the most. Apparently, he accidentally hit Yang Yang a few times on his nose during a particularly challenging scene that involved wirework, and he felt extremely sorry for it. Being the perfectionist that he is, Yang Yang proactively asked for a retake.
The movie premieres in theaters on July 21 August 3, 2017 (China) and August 11, 2017 (North America).
