The stars are certainly aligning for the 22-year-old William Yang Xuwen who has gone from obscurity to supporting roles to leading roles in a short span of time. His co-star Yang Rong may not have had a similar luck but she is definitely leading lady material now.
Both are in the thick of filming for the upcoming Chinese TV series Demon Catcher Zhong Kui 钟馗捉妖记. The script which has taken three years in the making aims to introduce a new kind of Zhong Kui and for once, I am loving the change in tone.
The cast and crew will be working through the Lunar New Year in Hengdian World Studios where a lot of costume dramas are shot. These images are probably as close as I’m ever going to get to one of these sets and it’s nice that the Demon Catcher team is generous with the fan service. Everyone seems to be braving the cold…. mad props to them!
