Things are about get real as Joe Chen (Stay With Me) confirms for Queen Dugu 独孤皇后 opposite Chen Xiao (ROCH) in a reunion of sorts from Swordsman. Filming is scheduled to begin early next year in Hengdian.
I tend to get pumped over every single thing but I promise that I mean it when I say that I really like the casting. Joe Chen has been a chameleon from rom-coms to drama to Dong Fang Bu Bai, so taking on the role of an queen is probably a walk in the park while Chen Xiao who excels in period dramas is always a welcome sight.
Interestingly, this drama tells the story of Dugu Jialuo and Yang Jian, the same characters in Legend of Dugu starring Hu Bing Qing and Zhang Dan Feng. If I were judge the book by its cover, I’m wholly onboard with Queen Dugu but a good story ultimately makes all the difference.
