If you weren’t paying attention to Oh My General 将军在上 before, then you might be now because its lady Sandra Ma Sichun brought home the gold in the 53rd Golden Horse Awards in Taiwan. Sandra Ma shares the best actress win alongside Zhou Dongyu (Sparrow) for their collaboration in Soulmate. Meanwhile, Wu Gang wins best action choreography for his work in Detective Chinatown.
Upon arriving at the airport, Sandra Ma was showered with congratulatory wishes from fans though the best part has to be her welcoming committee of twenty men in full military attire. The crew also surprised her with a towering six-tier cake as a mini-celebration on the set.
Oh My General has Sandra Ma deviating from previous roles as she transforms into Ye Zhao, a masculine female general with the strength to take down any man. The character reminds me of Brienne of Tarth if she were pulled into a Chinese historical comedy.

I was thrilled that she got the Golden Horse award. It was a tough competition. I read some Chinese netizens bashed the jury for the joint awards. But if people read the reviews of Soul Mate, critics almost universally praise her and Zhou Dongyu's strong performance. I watched the movie and think that the actresses deserve the awards.

Hi Caranita, I wasn't going to watch Soul Mate but now that both leads have won best actress and with the positive feedback that I keep hearing.. I'm kind of excited to give it a try. I personally don't see a problem with sharing an award as long as it's warranted.
