Zhang Ruo Yun is an up-and-coming actor who seems to be traversing every genre, from a true blue patriot in the spy era to a mythical creature living atop a castle in the sky. He also became an ingenious forensic examiner at one point and he has gone back to period dramas as a warrior in The Fated General 大漠骠骑霍去病.
I have never seen him in traditional military gear and I must say that the first few stills have potential. He looks super young and broody for the most part but I can definitely see the makings of a legendary hero.
Mao Xiao Tong (Princess Weiyoung) also joins the cast and she is currently listed as a female general but it looks like she will take the supporting role to Xu Yue who played Yao Meng in When A Snail Falls In Love. I like both actresses but I kind of wished it was the other way around because it’s about time that Mao Xiao Tong gets her shot at a leading role. Update: Ha.. wishes do come true, she is the lead.
She recently posted on weibo two photos of herself wearing a beautiful hanfu and she writes, “before riding a horse versus after writing a horse.” Even with the messy ‘after look’, she still looks gorgeous.
