Mark Chao and Ni Ni Star in “The Warriors Gate” That Seems to Aim for the English-Language Market

The Warriors Gate
The Warriors Gate 勇士之门 is a 2016 fantasy action adventure starring Mark Chao (Three Lives Three Worlds), Ni Ni (Rise of the Phoenixes), Uriah Shelton, Francis Ng and Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy).

It is a French-Chinese production that tells the story of a gamer who enters an alternate reality where he befriends a princess, partners up with a warrior and makes an enemy out of a mad king. As if it’s not outrageous enough, there’s also a wizard, a witch and some tree demons joining the fray. It is a dead ringer for Forbidden Kingdom except there is no Jet Li, Jackie Chan or Journey to the West to further fuel the hype.

I had zero expectations coming in but decided to watch due to lingering feelings for Mark Chao who has reemerged as a fan favorite after Eternal Love. Everything from beginning to end really does scream Forbidden Kingdom though it manages to earn a few good laughs in spite of an entirely predictable plot.

It is quite brainless as far as entertainment goes but it’s not half bad for all the effort and I definitely enjoyed it way more than I should. The movie is in english so no subs needed you guys.
