It’s crazy the number of time travel dramas since Scarlet Heart. Faithful to Buddha, Faithful to You 不负如来不负卿 is another one to add to the list. It is adapted from a popular novel by Xiao Chun 小春 and stars Rong Zhuo and Niu Zi Fan.
The premise reminds me of The Time Traveler’s Wife, which if you don’t know is the kind of film (or book if you read that too) that is guaranteed to make you cry. A young woman from the future that’s trying out a time travel machine finally succeeds in her attempt and meets a monk at several points of his lifetime. Interestingly, the monk is based on a historical figure named Kumārajīva.
