Advisors Alliance 军师联盟 is a 42-episode Chinese historical drama that revolves around the esteemed strategist Si Ma Yi and his experiences in Wei during the Three Kingdoms Era. He started out as a cowardly scholar who erred more on the side of caution than anything else but his one look at Cao Cao begins an ill-fated relationship between the two. He is taken by force to serve the Cao family as an official and he becomes embroiled in a complicated ploy for power.
Wu Xiu Bo double hats as actor and producer and his attachment to the project brings together a star-studded ensemble of acting heavyweights that include Liu Tao (Nirvana in Fire), Janine Zhang (Empress of China), Li Chen (Running Man), Zhang Zhixi (Three Heroes and Five Gallants), Tina Tang Yixin (Legend of Qing Qiu Fox) and Zhai Tianlin.
As war-ridden and bloody as it may be, Three Kingdoms remains one of the most marvelous clashes of wits amongst the brilliant minds in Chinese history. Advisors Alliance certainly looks to poised to deliver a legit depiction of the same, though I have no clue why the characters are in suits, must be a new concept that they’re trying out?
Even so, a winning story is not always a guarantee for success, God of War Zhao Yun turned out to be a surprising letdown and I really hope Advisors Alliance does not disappoint. In a way, this can be seen as the non-idol alternative to Secret of the Three Kingdoms, and if In the Name of People has shown us anything, it’s that veterans are veterans for a reason.
