Saimdang, the Herstory 사임당 is a 30-episode k-drama about Shin Saimdang, a gifted poet who is also multi-faceted in the field of Korean art and literature. It marks Lee Young Ae‘s return to the small screen after more than a decade long hiatus since the smashing success of Jewel in the Palace in 2004.
Lee plays a modern day teacher who discovers Shin Saimdang’s diary and travels back in time to uncover pieces of her life. Song Seung Heon plays her love interest and a man of equal talent.
The posters are so tastefully done that it could very well belong inside an art gallery though judging from the subject’s solemn expressions, I am guessing that this is going to be one helluva tearjerker.
Nevertheless, it is Lee Young Ae’s highly anticipated comeback and it seems fitting for her to have chosen a traditional historical drama, minus the time-travel that is. She looks regal at the age of 45 while Song Seung Heon at the age of 40 is mighty fine as well. The series premieres in Oct 2016 Jan 2017 on SBS.
